Chelsea Light Moving – Chelsea Light Moving

Chelsea Light Moving – Chelsea Light Moving
Matador / Beggars – 2013
Rock, Alternative, Noise
Rated: ***

On Demolished Thoughts from 2011 Thurston Moore offers his soul up for punishment. In an oppressive, wistful and angry fashion he deals with his break-ups. So Chelsea Light Moving aims to be a new start. A band filled with artists from underground bands such as Tower Recordings, Sunburned Hand Of The Man and Jackie-O-Motherfucker. Moore and his new band of pirates stay close to his Sonic Youth roots and incorporate much of their telltale elements. Wrenching harmonies, spoken word and distorted distortion. And honestly, this record is beautifully done and sounds like a long lost companion. All the while though you kind of miss the feedback Lee Ranaldo used to have for his brother in crime. Even so, half the songs are definite kickers and deserve a place in history. The rest might just be something Moore wrote down while doing something entirely different. Like boiling an egg. Or hitting three old men with a plaice across their faces. Who knows?
