Firelord – The Burning

Firelord – The Burning
Self released – 2011
Rock, Stoner, Seventies
Rated: ****

On a cold day in Turin, Italy in 2007 the guys from the doom metal project Saint Judas decided to call it quits. Not long after singer and guitar player Mario starts a new band called Firelord which quickly turns into a four-piece playing covers and some demo tunes inspired by bands such as Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus, Earthride and Gates of Slumber. But it’s not until the beginning of 2011 before a stable power trio line-up is found and their taste for heavy 70’s and 80’s rock evolves into their own sound. Taking queues from their inspirations and the old blues roots we are treated to some mastered version of the pure and steady riff. Without trying to innovate or re-invent the music that already was done right, they take us on a ride with heaviness and righteousness. Dark rhythms and dusty guitars; it spooks and it crawls and shows us once again that the old blood is as warm as ever…
